IMPORTANT INFORMATION & WARNINGS
READ THIS MANUAL BEFORE OPERATING

Less-Lethal PROTECTILE 9×19mm

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The PROTECTILE is designed to render conventional bullets less lethal. When attached to the firearm, it encases the factory ammunition in order to prevent fatal injury.

The less-lethal PROTECTILE is a composite projectile. To prevent lethal force, the
PROTECTILE is inserted into the muzzle of the barrel and a live round is fired. The 9×19mm lethal bullet is captured safely within the PROTECTILE hitting the attacker at about 100 joules. The energy depends on the cartridge used and the barrel length of the weapon. The pistol reloads a new cartridge from the magazine and the weapon is ready for firing another live round. A new PROTECTILE can be inserted into the barrel or a live shot can be fired with the duty ammunition.

ADVANTAGES
– Immediate use of live rounds after firing the PROTECTILE
– No switching between the less-lethal and lethal weapons
– The operator stays armed at all times
– An affordable less-lethal solution
– Application of existing service weapons
– Application of existing ammunition

INTENDED USE, SCOPE
Until today, law enforcement often had no choice but to use lethal force due to a lack of alternatives. The patented PROTECTILE allows the service weapon and service ammunition to be used as a de-escalating less-lethal solution.
The PROTECTILE is a potentially life-saving alternative in operational situations where deadly force is legally justified and warranted.

WARNINGS, DEPLOYMENT RECOMMENDATIONS
This manual is specifically intended for trained, professional and licenced gun bearers.
Proficient, safe handling and use of firearms are assumed and no further reference is given on how to use firearms.
It is strongly recommended to verbally announce the firing of the PROTECTILE. This should be practiced in training to prevent unintentional firing by other officers. Do not fire shots in quick succession (no “double tap”) to prevent the second shot from being unintentionally fired without the PROTECTILE. Before the shot is fired, make sure the PROTECTILE is in place and not knocked out of the barrel by accident. The PROTECTILE can only be fired once.

9×19mm AMMUNITION TO BE USED
The white insertion plug of the PROTECTILE is the identifier for the 9×19mm (9mm Luger, 9mmP) ammunition to be used. Any 9×19mm ammunition fired with the PROTECTILE must be safety tested before being placed in service. Depending on the bullet velocity and bullet weight, the energy of the PROTECTILE will change. Particularly high-energy ammunition or particularly high-penetrating ammunition, such as armour piercing ammunition, may not be stopped by the PROTECTILE.

OTHER CALIBERS
Calibers other than 9×19mm may NOT be used with the PROTECTILE 9x19mm.
PROTECTILES for other calibers (cartridges) are under development.

DEPLOYMENT DISTANCE
Recommended deployment distance 0–7m.

AIMING
Use a both-eyes aiming technique as the PROTECTILE covers a small portion in front of the front sight.

POINT OF IMPACT
Test the point of impact with the ammunition used.
Typically, the centre of shots at 7m is approximately 7cm below the point of impact of the live ammunition.

SHOT PLACEMENT
Targeting the head and upper torso should be avoided. At a distance of 7m, aim at the centre of the body
(centre of mass). The closer the target, the lower the aim.

LOADING THE PROTECTILE
Grasp the PROTECTILE so that your hand is not directly in front of the barrel muzzle when the plug is inserted. Insert the PROTECTILE as far as it will go.

UNLOADING THE PROTECTILE
Grasp the PROTECTILE so that your hand is not directly in front of the barrel muzzle when pulling it out.

HOLSTER
Various types of belt holsters are under development.
